Geographical Position
The Augustów Municipality is situated in the north-east part of Poland on the north edge of Podlaskie Voivodeship. It surrounds the city of Augustów and consists of 36 villages. It covers an area of 26,652 ha. The municipality’s forests are dominated by pine and spruce but also alder and mixed forests occur. Forests’ main habitants are: wild boar, elk, deer, roe deer, various species of birds. One can find an ancient forest and protected or rare plants there. Around Kolno lake there is an unique nature preserve of the mute swan.
Augustow Municipality is known as an area of outstanding natural conditions which is conducive to the development of organic farming and tourism. Traditional agriculture and rich natural environment are strengths of the region.
